I think I may have missed some (as usual) of the commentary on this song, but
I believe the guy that inspired Joni's "female role self-evaluation" here is

yeah, Warren Beatty. Don't know if that can lend any insight or not. I always
thought of the Lord on deathrow line meaning "God is dead" till I read
someone's (sorry I can't give you credit) thought on the Manson thing.
