    My History 206 professor actually made a comment about this specific 
line in class 2 months ago. We were discussing the lynchings of African 
Americans in the 1880's and 90's and Ida B. Wells effort to have them 
stopped. She mentioned this line and stated how they would make actuall 
postcard-like memorabilia of a recent hanging. She also mentioned that the 
line was referring to that time period.  That may have been true, but I 
think if anything it represents more of what was going on in the 1960's in 
the south and elsewhere in the United States.
