Well, Ken and I have returned from a worldwind tour of Memphis and Nashville
last weekend.

Some highlights of our trip.....

Watching and listening to Levon Helm (!) play drums at BB King's Blues Club
on Beale Street... a complete and wonderful surprise...

Seeing some truly funky floor-to-ceiling shag carpeting in the Jungle Room
at Graceland, and reading incredible old headlines, including one linking
rock-and-roll to the "fall of civilization as we know it" (glad we made it
through, somehow)...

Standing in Sun Studios with one of the microphones used by Elvis, on a
two-room tour that consisted of hearing a number of little ditties like
"Blue Suede Shoes" and "Great Balls of Fire" in the very spot where they
were recorded...

Standing on the stage of the Ryman Auditorium in
Nashville....."How-dee!!!!!!! I'm just so proud to be here!"

Seeing the old and new Daisy Theatres "staring" at each other from across
the street (Ken pointed out that the "new" Daisy is vintage 1940's...)

And, of course, we found "Handy cast in bronze, standing in a little park,"
as we listened to some decent new bands, and I danced a bit on Beale. (The
statue went up the year Joni wrote about it, by the way...)

I love that song; it is one of the moodiest and experience-rich songs on
Hejira, which is basically an album chronicling rich experience.

"RJ Anderson, I'm not rich, but I'm gay.......and I am quite familiar with
what you play..." ;)

Love to all,
Steve

P.S. Ken and I have noticed that our travels this year seem to hinge around
Hejira; we visited Savannah in February, and now Memphis! (Where to next,
my dear?)
