I'm not too familiar with hotels and rates and, in any
case, there are always deals to be made. $300 20 yrs
ago - wow! - that's a lot by any standard, and I had
no idea. I'm not sure what "expensive" means, but to
me $159 US IS expensive, even if it includes
breakfast. You'd have to add about 40% on top of
that, so it's well over $200 CDN.

There's a lot of hotel stuff there, in addition to the
usual tourist info - at the very least, it should give
you a rough idea of what's available and where.
