I think that's exactly what Joni had in mind. The retro-poignancy that the
character is experiencing in the Chinese Cafe, possibly at the end of one
relationship, is overcome by the arrival of a potential new love....again.
WHAM--> hormones in overdrive, the thrill of the chase, "maybe this time"
(to quote Sally Bowles).
