I don't know how many of you have Joni dreams, but I've had a few. Last
night's was extremely fun!
She was in Madison(!)for some reason for 2 weeks. Mary P invited
Kerry, Ross and I to meet her for lunch on a Friday, and since that was
very short and rushed, Joni invited us to a fish fry that evening.
At the restaurant, some other folks crashed our party. Ross and Kerry
and I got a big round table next to Joni's reserved one. Some guy sat in my
chair where I had my coat and wouldn't move, so I had to take the seat
farthest from her table, which got me miffed, since she personally invited
me earlier that day.
Joni never showed up, so I wandered into the back banquet room where she
had set up camp with her girlfriends, some fans, and a couple of gay
guys. One of the guys encouraged me to stay back there with them, so did
Joni herself, telling me she was glad I was such a good sleuth. I hung out
with Mary P. who also found the secret sware.
The goddess sat in the corner at a table for two with one of her
friends. Next to her were 2 other girlfriends at a small table, and the
fans were at a big round one next to that. The gay boys and Mary and I were
at a long table, and they were telling me to go get a pen from one of the
waiters because Joni was in a good mood and was signing autographs now. So
I hunted one down, with the waiter giving me shit for 'bothering the star
in the backroom' asking me for an ID to get his damn pen!
By the time I got back, Joni was already sitting at another table signing
the things that her fans had brought. There were about 4 girls in front of
me, and I had nothing to sign, so I grabbed a paper place mat and stood in
line. One of the guys and I were really laughing it up and having a
gay-ol-time, and Joni kept on peering at us, like she wanted to join in.
By the time I got to the table, my friend said "Have her sign your butt-
it'll be worth more then!" To which everyone laughed, including Joni. So I
turned my back to her and undid my belt and stopped, asking my friend, "But
what if I meet a guy who doesn't like her music?"
He looked at me and Joni, and said something like- it's a tough
decision, kid. I redid my belt and handed her the place mat, and everyone
was saying that there was a record shop 2 blocks away that ALWAYS had Joni
CD's, so I should just run and get one. I asked Joni if she'd mind, and she
said, "No, I'm relieved, actually!" We all laughed some more.
So I ran out the front, only to see that Kerry and Ross and the rest of
the table in the main room had left. Then I awoke...
(Darn!)
