Thank you for responding, wally.  I wasn't sure what kind of reaction I
would get to my post since I feel that as a straight person I take so many
simple things for granted and anything I write about gays/lesbians could be
perceived as presumptuous.  I just know that all of the non-straight people
I have ever known have been kind, sensitive, and gentle people and I could
never imagine anyone wanting to hurt them.  When I saw this tragedy in
Belgrade, I felt shocked and angry.  If I had been there, I don't think I
could have stopped myself from trying to interfere with the attackers.  This
incident seems especially dreadful to me because so many people were
involved - not only the hooligans, but also the onlookers who cheered them
on.  It was a terrible crime against humanity.
