(...Ok, Where do I Begin)

Hello Again!
This is now, I guess, my third incarnation on this
list in the past couple of years...Amherst,
Massachusetts, Washington, DC and now Taipei, Taiwan.
Thanks to the great computer scene here I now have a
great scanner and a CD burner...so if there is anyone
in Asia who might need anything from almost any of the
Joni (and the "Frier" Bob's cover CDs volumes 1-8)
tape trees I would be happy...more than happy to get
you what you need...just let me know. Here in Taiwan
I am finding myself in an almost complete void of hip
music. The majority of what I hear sounds like
Chinese Air Supply (no offense to the Cetera fans).
Even the local Tower Records is sorely lacking in some
of my strange tastes (all must hail Neutral Milk
Hotel,Andrew Bird, 1920s Hawaiian jazz, Steven
Malkmus, and Cat Power...all of which I can't find
anywhere here yet get me through my day...besides of
course Joni et al). I have continued my random acts
of Joniness crusade by finding curious Taiwanese folks
who have either never heard of Ms. Mitchell (and love
the Sarah McLaughlin, Tori Amos, Loreena McKinnet etc
etc) or perhaps have heard but have no idea...by
sneaking them a personal compilation CD or two. A
while back my mother requested some Joni. She had
bought the "Hits" CD so as to remind herself of me and
my passions so I went about putting together my own
"hits" CD...only to find that it actually took two CDs
to do it. Here is the track lists:
The first CD is called "Banquet"...
Banquet, The Hunter (Good Samaritan), Cactus Tree,
Cold Blue Steel & Sweet Fire, The Pirate of Pennance,
Don't Interupt the Sorrow, For Free, I Think I
Understand, Sunny Sunday, The Fiddle & the Drum, The
Arrangement, The Jungle Line, The Priest, The Wolf
that Lives In Lindsey, I Still Miss Someone (with
Johnny Cash), Long Black Veil ( with J.C.), Girl from
the North (w/ JC), Mr. Tamborine Man (w/ Pete Seeger),
and Both Sides Now (w/ Pete Seeger + the extra verse).
The second CD is called "Silky Veils"...
Silky Veils of Ardor, All I Want, Passion Play, Blond
in the Bleachers, Conversation, Fro the Roses, Smokin'
(Try Another), Hejira (from the Gene Autrey Museum
gig), court and Spark, Just Like This Train, Night in
the City, Slouching Towards Bethlehem, Night Ride
Home, Songs to Aging Children Come, Turbulent Indigo,
Brandy Eyes, Carnival in Kenora, Winterlady, and Just
Like Me.
For those of you who are intimate with these songs you
may be able to hear the sequencing flow in your heads.

Well, as you can see, I'm still committed to the cause
and am looking forward to getting caught up on the
news and any recordings I may have missed since the
Merryweather show in MD. Again, any folks out here in
Asia who need a "hook-up" just let me know.
Take care,
Julian
