So, I had the VCR all set up and I checked this a.m.,
wondering why it didn't look as if enough tape had
wound around - for an hour-long show on a 2-hr tape,
the reels should be about half-and-half.

Rewound to the start, then fast-forwarded past
Letterman's opening bit (noticing as I did how much
he's starting to look like our PM Jean Chretien); past
the Reese Witherspoon interview (noticing as I did,
how much her head bobbed back and forth - if you don't
believe me on either point, play your tape in fast
forward.)

So, then I see Jonatha - she's singing Linger and
wearing that Starsky and Hutch T-shirt (again?!?) Get
halfway through the song and the tape cuts out!!!!!

Merde!

I think I know now why this happened but have no idea
how to fix the problem - it may be explained in the
VCR manual but I have no idea where that is.

Has anyone else ever had this problem? I programmed
it to start last night just before 11:30 and to end
just before 12:30 - but it seems that once the clock
strikes 12:00, the VCR loses it and shuts off -
because you also have to set the date and the date has
changed. It only has a date to start, then a time to
start and a time to end - no date to end. I went
through the entire menu looking for options to get
around this, but there don't seem to be any. It's
kind of like the Y2K thing on a daily basis. I may
have neglected to tell it to stop at 12;35 AM though -
I may have selected PM (can't tell now that the event
has passed.)

So, what I have a tape of about half of "Linger"
(which is better, I guess, than if JB had been at the
END of the show and not the middle.)

Did she sing more than one song and did Letterman
interview her, or was it just sing one, then get off?
