All will be revealed in approximately 51 days, Jimmy! Although I absolutely
REFUSE to eat Vegemite - it's disgusting stuff.....although those who like
it will say the same about Marmite (which is MUCH nicer)! I'll bring both
and you can decide for yourself!
We've discussed this before but I'll give you a wee refresher....
Marmite originated in England, but NZ's apparently tastes quite a bit
different now. Vegemite originated in Australia, I guess in competition to
the original. They are both yeast extracts, and are a good source of iron
and B-group vitamins - particularly for those who don't eat meat. They are
both very vaguely like Bovril (a beef extract) - they're the same colour
anyway, and Marmite is occasionally used to flavour gravy. It's actually
impossible to compare it to anything, except to say it's very salty.
They are both a standard sandwich spread for school lunches (I would hate to
count the number of Marmite sandwiches I ate as child), although my mother
used to insist on putting lettuce in with mine as well - which I hated -
cheese is better. The best sandwich of all is Marmite and chips (eg. Lays,
etc. for you US people), preferably chicken flavoured!
