Hi everyone,
For any JT fans out there, he is alive and very well and singing and playing
better than ever. We had the pleasure of seeing and hearing him last evening
at the Hershey Park Stadium. We were pretty close (on the floor in row 14
right in the center.) In fact, the sound and electric cables separated my
husband's and my fold out chairs! He came out in a long -sleeved light blue
denim button down shirt and khaki slacks. He seemed extremely relaxed and had
an instant rapport with the audience. When he took a break, he joked that he
would eat a couple of big "Chocolate Bars" while we did. ( Hershey , get it?)
When people from the audience would yell out the name of a song for him, he
would lift up the set list that was written on a big black board and say
"we're getting to it, not quite yet -it's coming up here" and point to it with
a big grin. It was a beautiful, breezy, cool evening and he was in tip top
form - in fact I don't think his voice has ever been stronger or better. Russ
Kunkel joined him in the second half of the concert on drums. He had 2 male
and 2 female back- up singers , another drummer , a sax/flautist. and another
guitarist. Second half there were video scenes on the backdrops/ mostly nature
to match songs. So new fatherhood must agree with him! He did two encores and
closed singularly playing acoustic Sweet Baby James. AWESOME!
I have a question about Gordon Lightfoot. A have always been a fan of his and
while we were in Vancouver, Canada on Canada Day recently, we saw a concert of
his airing on TV. His voice and energy was fantastic, but man did he look ill!
He had aged double his years. Anyone know if he has been tragically ill
lately? He played well and sounded good, but I was shocked to see how gaunt he
was. Anybody????? Thanks! As ever, Janine Counting the days till Toronto and
Joni Tribute.
