Just a quick post before I prepare to head for the SC Coast and Pawley's
Island...
Joni thing 1: I don't understand why "Love" isn't considered a happy song.
The original text from Paul's letter to the church he started in Corinth is
nothing but uplifting joy, and Joni barely tweaks the words in her song, in
which she lists the attributes of love and its manifestations. To me it's
full of joy and ends WTRF on a very positive note. Sure, the melody isn't
upbeat like "Streetlights" and may even contain a touch of melancholy, but
the words are not melancholy to my understanding anyway.
Joni Thing 2: Went to the Handlebar last night to hear Michelle Malone, and
met a couple there who have recently moved here from Italy - I met them
through the Springsteen list...and what a grand time we had! It was like
hanging with a JMDL'er!
Anyway, when I went to buy my ticket for the show, the radio was playing
Joni's "Blue Motel Room" Holy smokes! That's the first time I've ever heard
BMR on the radio! And it was a portent (I think that's the right word) of
things to come; the opening act, a gal from Columbia SC named Danielle Howle,
closed her set with a great version of "Woodstock", and introduced it by
saying "I'll close with a song by the mother of us all"...needless to say, I
was in total jaw-droppin awe!
Well, that's it...I've got a laundry list of things to do before we leave
tomorrow...y'all have a great day, and I'll be checking in...how could I not?
;~)
