No, I've never made that little overseas trip! I know it's only 40 minutes
by ferry, but it's just one of those things I've never done. Ironically,
I've just turned down a chance to go there in a couple of weeks (for a
provincial rugby game, Auckland vs. North Harbour) but I've already had a
better offer (sorry, my lips are sealed on those details)!
The Mermaid Cafe is listed in the phone book, so if I'm ever over there I'll
look them up, and ask the owners what gave them their inspiration - maybe it
was our Joan! Or I might even give them a call tomorrow!
