So there I was, driving along I-10 and listening to NRH like it was the
first time I'd ever heard it. To let you understand, recently, Leslie (in
London) and I have been e-swapping song ideas for the fest, well chords
really, and NRH turns out to be pretty straight-forward in standard tuning.
Anyhoo, chez nous (my sis's place), I had been strumming and strumming and
my sister says, my that's a great song. Says I, Joni. Well turns out she
can't get the song out of her head despite never having heard the original.
For me, if you play (perform) a song long enough in your own way it kinda
becomes a I-did-it-my-way song. Not having heard NRH in a long while my
version, from memory, just became NRH if you will (I wish). To the chase, I
got the car today and on the spur of the mo went and bought NRH & DJRD as a
surprise; she's only heard the Hissing Demos version of Dreamland. I put the
NRH CD on and man it just sent tingles up my car seat. I was close on
running red lights through lack of concentration. I'm all for not listening
to Joni that often coz when I rediscover her, whale-oil-beef-hooked by how
good she is all over again. I'm picking sis up in a few hours and can't wait
to play NRH in all the enclosed audio splendour that cars allow. Continuing
to play the NRH album I was reminded of how, with such ease, Joni uses "big"
words; edifying, incendiary, perjured. Not your run-o-the-mill be bop a lula
poetry. The list hasn't had a Top 10 anything for a while. Top ten
"big"/favourite words that Joni uses and is she being pretentious by using
them, or IMO just the wonder that she is? Once in a while Willy will write
...
