I totally understand that, Hell...for years I made compilation tapes for my sisters, 
and my older sister finally told me NOT to give her any more Elvis tunes as she 
couldn't stand his voice. 

BUT his songs can't be denied...for someone to say that they are a 'lyrics' person, 
and then deny the lyrical genius of Elvis Costello, well I just may have to slap you 
silly at the fest, darlin'! ;~) And like Joni says about Tim Curry singing "Cold Blue 
Steel & Sweet Fire", he has a way of spitting out a lyric like:

"Some say that love is like a tumor, you've got to cut it out"

that just stops me in my tracks. Now I'm not saying that you HAVE to like him, only 
that his songs have a quality that only a *handful* of writers can aspire to. Like 
Joni, he's become somewhat less prolific; unlike Joni he continues to move forward 
instead of backward.
