I am outraged. After years of keeping my mouth shut on the criticism heaped upon
Joni's slippery "Dog Eat Dog", I now find the other 80's masterpiece "Chalkmark In A
Rainstorm" undergoing similar treatment. CMIARS is my favorite of the 80's trio. I
think that the vocals on this record are among Joni's best, and she makes some of her
very best background noises: "Lakota", with all of those chants and whimpers; "My
Secret Place", with those beautiful noises behind the third verse, and all of the
others. Oddly enough "Corinna Corinna" is the only track on the album that I don't
think fits...its too organic, or something. CMIARS also holds the "best sleeve"
title, IMHO, followed closely by NRH and DED.
Today marks the start of the CMIARSRP (Chalkmark In A Rainstorm Reclamation Project).
No membership fees, but you have to sing "Dancin Clown" with me (and do the voices) if
we ever run into each other.

first.)
