Mark, thanks for taking the time to write yet another incredible post! I aspire to
your eloquence, sir.

Some comments:

<<Why do they come in the first place if they
aren't going to *listen* to the music? >>

Boy, I REALLY agree! Last night I began work on Covers, Volume 25 (!), and one of the
tracks is Frente's (live) version of "You Turn Me On, I'm A Radio". The lead singer
tells the crowd (they're in a small venue) "Why are you all chatting it up at the
bar...it's very off-putting, if you could shut up, please..." When the PERFORMER has
to say it, you know it's bad!

<<No fault with Rickie Lee or her performance, I just don't particularly like the
lyrics to that song. >>

I'm intrigued by this comment, Mark. What specifically do you dislike about Lorenz
Hart's lyric on this one? I've always thought his rhyme of "laughable" and
"unphotographable" was masterful. Also like the "you make me smile with your heart"
line. Shoot, I like the whole thing...maybe you just need to hear Elvis Costello's
version! ;~D

<<Now pass me that plate of crow and give me some recommendations! >>

Like everyone else, Mark, Pirates should be the next one, then Magazine. I don't think
you can go wrong with any of them. But Pirates....Oh, man, that's her Hejira.

Thanks again for a charming read this morning!

Bob
