Saw Lucy Kaplansky last night at the Barns of Wolf Trap in Vienna, VA.
She was a joy to hear, as was her lead guitarist, Duke Levine (he
ROCKS). But the best part of the evening for me was Lucy's excellent
cover of "Willy", during which she accompanied herself on piano.

After the song was over, Lucy returned to the center stage mike and
said, "You all know who wrote that, don't you? Joni Mitchell." She
then went on to say that she had performed the song along with another
Joni tune "at a gig in New York City a couple of weeks ago" (Wall to
Wall, I'm sure). Lucy also told the audience that, "Joni Mitchell was
the single biggest influence on my life" (or words very similar). She
said that when she was 15 her brother gave her Blue and told her she
HAD to listen to it, and that after doing so, she decided that playing
music was what she wanted to do with her life (of course there was that
brief period when Lucy was a clinical psychologist, but who cares?).

She said, "Blue completely changed my world." Know anyone else who
might say that? ; )

A really good show, and wonderful Joni content!
