I am pleased to take this opportunity to write about a very dear friend of mine, Julie Shephard, another Canadian singer/songwriter/poet/painter who has been directly influenced and inspired by the life/art/songs of Joni Mitchell.
Like many of us on the list, Julie Shephard's first encounter with Joni Mitchell was through the magic and wonder of Court and Spark. Julie tells me that she discovered her own voice by learning to sing and play the songs on this very album. What a wonderful introduction into the land of Joni!!!! Much like Joni, Julie's landscape consists of singing, writing songs (en francais et english), as well as playing guitar and piano. Her artistic adventures include writing poetry as well as painting images she sees and feels from within. There are some wonderful photographs on her site which speak volumes in support of her work. Julie has travelled the world and shares her vision with everyone who is willing to be still and listen to her stories.
