i have a hint actually :-), if you have a large amount of records that you are going to fetch from a table and you are not to use "mysql_num_rows" or any similar functions that depends on the result set then using "mysql_unbuffered_query" instead of "mysql_query" is going to be faster to fetch your data from the specified table since there is no buffering is being made and the fetched row is going to be "immediately" used rather than waiting for the whole data set to be fetched and then return the whole "bunch" as a single entity "as mysql_query is actually doing!", and also it would save a lot of system resources specially when dealing with large amounts of data, http://www.php.net/mysql_unbuffered_query and thank you for sharing faisal :-)
