This is to inform you that the Lagos State Government has intensified effort
in taking stringent actions against defaulters of traffic offences in the
state.

Both the Lagos State Government and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC)
have increased sanctions against road traffic offenders. Recently, some
drivers caught by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA)
driving "one way", were summarily tried in court and given sentences
ranging from 10 – 30 days imprisonment* without option of fine*. The
convicts were immediately taken to prison custody to serve their jail terms.

Other offenders who were not tried were sent to a psychiatric hospital where
they were made to undergo psychiatric tests, treatment, and training in
addition to the N25,000 fine.

Some pedestrians who were caught crossing the road in areas where
pedestrian over-head bridges are provided were also tried and sentenced to
imprisonment with option of fine.

Anyone tried and convicted automatically becomes an* ex convict.*** This is
likely to have implications for their current and future employment,
political
ambitions and other endeavours.

You are advised to strictly obey traffic laws in all situations and in all
places.
This is a civic responsibility expected by all law abiding citizens to avoid

undesirable consequences.
