Hi,

No, being born-again isn't an automatic ticket to doing well in academics. But,
in my case, I think I would have done much better if I had settled for Christ
early enough. I will not have wasted the first two years in the University and
getting the carry-overs that haunted me all through my 5 years in ATBU, Bauchi.

Besides, after my salvation, I have discovered that I rarely score less that a
'B' in any exams I have taken. So...

Anyway, here are some more Tips for our baby brothers and sisters of the 2012
Set. Enjoy!

TIPS FOR
BABY COMMANDOS

ON LIFE
AFTER CSS JOS
        1. This is a fact: You will NEVER see some of your classmates again.
Therefore, take as many pictures as you can afford. Ask your parents to
bring a digital camera when they come to pick you up and take all the
pictures
you can. Take the pictures of your Teachers, your hostel, your class etc.
        2. Humble yourself. Whoever your Parents are today, someone will
surpass them someday. Work hard to be that “someone”.
        3. CSS Jos has allowed you to know people from all parts of Nigeria. It
will be a shame if you end up joining those who hate/kill/victimise people from
other tribes or religions. Commandos are not driven by ethnic or religious
sentiments. These past 6 years of CSS Jos are your years of innocence when
there is real love between all of you. In my days, there was no Yoruba or
Hausa, no Muslim or Christian. We were all Commandos and we still relate on
that basis even till today. It is now your turn to protect and sustain this
love for your fellow country men and women.
        4. All hostility should end before you leave the gates of CSS Jos.
Ex-Commandos are not enemies with themselves.

ON LIFE IN HIGHER
INSTITUTION
1.                  To
get into University this year, try the Private Universities. Many are looking
for students and will admit you with 4 Credits. You should try to sit for their
post-UME exams immediately after leaving CSSJ. But, remember that these schools
usually restrict your movement and the tuition costs are very higher. On the
plus side, you can be sure that ASUU strikes will not affect you.
2.                  Believe
it or not, how you read to pass in University is different from Secondary
school. I don’t know about now, but in my days, you pass by giving the Lecturer
back what he gave you (a.k.a. cramming.) You must be able to change your
reading techniques to survive University.
3.                  To
make a good grade in University, you must start doing well from 100 level. Most
students play around in their first two years and then try to make up in the
later years. Those that make first class and second class upper do well right
from the beginning.
4.                  Do
all you can to get a Second Class Upper. It opens a lot of doors and literally
sets you up to a better life.
5.                  Make
it your goal to have a Masters degree before you are 25 years old.
6.                  To
avoid sexual harassment decide that you will rather fail than sell yourself for
marks. Most importantly dress like someone with a good pedigree who is keeping
herself for something better.

ON GOD
1.                  Following
God now will save you a lot of scars or regrets down the road.
2.                  Following
God’s principles of money will make you rich by the time you are 30 years old.
3.                  Following
God’s Word will help you live a longer, healthier and fulfilling life.

Snr Adam John,

How are you? Trust all is well? Hope our colleagues in KD are out of harm's
way? Hear the situation there is degenerating into utter chaos? God help us.

Btw: ur advises below, are they actual or jst examples? Does being born again
really qualify you for automatic 2.1? Surely even the "brothers" trying so hard
to corner the love of the "sisters" is a bit distracting? Lol.

I am not countering ur advise o, it jst gt me thinking . . . and laughing . . .

But then, I would advise that they keep moderate in all they do and remain self
disciplined.
Btw Primary & Secondary sch, they have been taught 3 basic things;

1. Turn up for class early at 8.00 on the dot (in the university at the
stipulated lecture time/b4 lecturer enters the class)
2. Do their homework and submit on time
3. Don't fight with your classmates.

Self discipline will help for the above 3; moderation will help on anything
else they decide to add to these basic 3.

My 2 cents . . .

Cheers
Daniel.
