Dear Commando,
THE NEED FOR STRONGER COJOSA SETS
COJOSA today seems
divided into two Camps when the issue of Sets is discussed.
One Camp is against
the Sets doing their own thing.
The other Camp sees
nothing wrong.
I am of the second
Camp: Each Set should aim to become
stronger, more independent and, when necessary, self- governing.
Those against
stronger Sets have their reasons. One of the Speeches at the 3rd Annual
Convention of COJOSA North America listed them as:
- The Commandos will miss the big picture.
- It will breed unhealthy competition.
- It will weaken the Chapters.
- It is merely social in nature and will
ultimately shrivel and die.
Very fine intellectual arguments.
My observation on
the Set-or-no-Set argument is that those Commandos opposed to it are:
* Usually Commandos from the F4 (my acronym for the First Four Sets of
1982, 1983, 1984 and 1985)
* Usually Commandos who DON’T have strong Sets themselves.
So, I wonder, how
can you lambast something you haven’t experienced yourself?
Meanwhile, I am yet
to hear anyone from the 1986 Set and below say anything negative about Sets.
It seems we have a
generational divide.
The F4 Vs. the
junior Sets.
The old Guards Vs.
the young Turks.
So, why should the
Sets be strengthened?
