Many thanks snr Mike for such a priceless advice. It indeed summarizes our
approach to effective team building.

Dear all, I have received a couple of private mails now regarding what the
actual ground rules are for this group and I will be honest to say in the
beginning that there were just a handful of participants and "love of COJOSA
and all things COJOSA" was the simple ground rule. In addition to very basic
rules that used to guide us back in the days. Finally, always sign out with
your name, title (optional), house and set.

In the past we used to try to ff most conversations but that is now very
difficult with 265 members and the diverse range of topics and discussions we
have on this forum. If we spot any anomalies in form of tone, or color of
speech, verbal attacks etc we sent private mails to the feuding parties to calm
things down. Don't forget I am also a member of a chapter and so I must remain
very neutral. So as it stands, we should all be "moderators" and "gate-keepers"
especially as we are all very adult.

In the interim, I hope the following approaches will guide our discussions,
deliberations, debates, interactions, etc going forward.

For the love of COJOSA and all things COJOSA:
        * Treat others as yourselves

        * Be forward thinking
        * Be perceived as honest and fair

        * Discuss issues not personalities

        * Act as doers and leaders

        * No, No, No finger pointing

        * Promise what you can deliver

        * Be open minded

        * Do Not seek personal glory

        * Do what is right

        * Be Inspiring
        * Be Competent or at least try to come across as being competent on a
topic BEFORE arguing
        * Have empathy for different points/views/positions

        * Share credit with others

        * Manage expectations

Why We Fail
        * Unwillingness to adapt

        * Focus on “me only”

        * Fear action

        * Are unable to get along

        * Do not exhibit resilience

        * Are unwilling to learn

Conflict Resolution Approaches: Confrontation is the best problem solver, but .
. .
        * Focus on defeating the problem, not each other

        * Avoid voting, trading, or averaging

        * Seek facts to avoid dilemmas

        * Accept conflict as helpful

        * Avoid self-oriented behavior

Approach for feedback:
        * Acknowledge the need for feedback

        * Give both positive and negative feedback

        * Understand the context

        * Know when to give feedback

        * Know how to give feedback

        * Know how to receive feedback

TEN COMMANDMENTS FOR GETTING ALONG WITH PEOPLE
I.   Keep skid chains on your tongue; always say less than you think
II.  Make promises sparingly and keep them faithfully
III. Never let an opportunity pass to say a kind and encouraging work to or
about somebody
IV. Be interested in others. Let everyone you meet feel that you regard him or
her as someone important
V.  Be cheerful. Hide your pains, worries, and disappointments, under a smile
VI.     Preserve an open mind on all debatable questions
VII.   Let your virtues speak for themselves and refuse to talk about another
person’s vices
VIII. Be careful of other people’s feelings. Wit and humor at someone else’s
expense are rarely worth the effort, and may hurt when least expected
IX.    Pay no attention to ill-natured remarks about you
X.     Don’t be too anxious about your dues

Cheers

Daniel.

Fellow Commandos,

It is with passion for this great association that i write. Thank God for all
the thoughts, outburst, wise counsels. People have been known to achieve more
as a result of working with others than against them. Nobody is a whole team.
We need each other. You need someone and someone needs you. Isolated islands we
are not. To make this Alma mata work, we gotta lean and support. And relate and
respond. And give and take. And confess and forgive. And reach out and embrace
and rely. None of us is a whole independent, self sufficient, all powerful. Let
quit the acting and as our school motto, Let us  bring to bear Discipline and
Knowledge to this great body. If a team is to reach its potential each player
must be willing to subordinate his personal goals to the good of the team.

Thank God for the season. Thank God for the fast. The game is over. Let link up
and build our chapters and support the Interim Body.  We will meet as one big
body in Jos as achievers celebrating our successes. The Goal is more important
than the role we play. Happy Easter.

Long Live COJOSA.

I have taken steps to douse the fire.But no matter how anyone sees it Tony you
did not have any right or reasons to reply to Senior George in public. I have
been a Senior and i was a junior and i know our code of conduct. I know there
is a new thought amongst some commandos that we don commot school so all that
senior thing don pass.For me i be Old school thinking and Oga na Master.I know
tony well and i must say no be just Command join us.I used to call him and his
Brother Andrew the love Brothers.
I appeal to may Seniors especially the pioneers that we appreciate your
pioneering work ad leadership and we hope that you can replicate the same as we
grow COJOSA. Also my dera Seniors let us not take the great work by the younger
Commandos to build COJOSA for granted as their good work is obvious to all.
Senior George na Senior Emeka i know you as i apologise and to Tony we don yarn,
Cheers
