I don't get an exception, but I do find the preference dialog buttons are not displayed correctly (ie at all) in a Ubuntu system - they go off the bottom of the box, and there is no scroll facility to retrieve them. I know it well enough to cope, but a newbie would be well stuck! Perhaps this relates to it?
