The other alternative is to browse the main OSM map and the click the permalink to get the correct location in the address bar. This can then be copied and pasted directly into the bounding box window in JOSM. Note that I normally find I want to reduce the zoom value after pasting by one or two (zoom 9 is normally the lowest for me before the download area is too large). Hope this too is helpful.
