I generally do keep up with SVN, and that wasn't the problem. The problem was that I wasn't expecting to find the code to set the header in the file for the "About" box. I can see why it's been done that way, but it's still a bit ugly. It looks possible to move the generation of the version string to the build script and have the string attached to the JAR.
