Thanks - that's it. I thought about caching, but didn't expect the
period to be so long.

I was a little irritated that in the map paint style preferences the
current version number is displayed (as tooltip in the available
styles table) but in fact an old version is used. Maybe it would be a
good idea to also display the version number as a tool tip for the
installed styles? And how about removing the cached version when one
removes a style?
