When you change an Maps entry (https://josm.openstreetmap.de/wiki/Maps and subpages) click the preview button. In this preview page is (like in the normal one) behind each entry a {view} link. Open this link (best in a new tab/page to not loose changes) and check it.
This preview does not detect all possible problems (e.g. some certificate issues are not detected), but is a very good indication whether it works or not.

That's also possible. You can add another maps source in expert preferences.
