Can You Be Forgiven?

1 Corinthians 6:9-11

9
Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not
inherit the kingdom of God?  Do not be deceived;
neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers,
nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,
10
nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor
revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of
God.
11
Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you
were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of
the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.

There you are, driving down the interstate toward
home. The speed limit is 60 mph, and you are cruising
along at 73. Then, the unthinkable happens: you zoom
past a police car. Immediately, your eyes dart to the
rearview mirror. Did he see you? Has his car pulled
onto the road? Without a doubt, this scene has
happened to most of us; these moments are sometimes
the clearest instances of self-realization that we
ever have.

The truth is, the police car represents a greater
truth: drivers are not supposed to speed. Even though
you may know this simple little rule, seeing a
policeman probably makes you look at your speedometer,
in order to make sure you are within the legal limits.
Whether you are speeding or not, you always hope the
squad car stays where it is, and you always feel
better when it is safely behind you.

Does this sound at all like your spiritual life? How
often do you go about your day, without a care in the
world, and then suddenly find yourself caught in a
moment of extreme spiritual awareness? If the Lord
appeared right now, would He catch you speeding?

Ask Jesus to help you understand that He is always
beside you, seeing all that you do. Here is the bonus,
though: even if Jesus gives you a spiritual ticket,
take joy in the fact that He has already paid your
fine.
