Dear Friends,

Putting Off Procrastination

Acts 24:24-27
24
But some days later Felix arrived with Drusilla, his
wife who was a Jewess, and sent for Paul and heard him
speak about faith in Christ Jesus.
25
But as he was discussing righteousness, self-control
and the judgment to come, Felix became frightened and
said, ""Go away for the present, and when I find time
I will summon you.''
26
At the same time too, he was hoping that money would
be given him by Paul; therefore he also used to send
for him quite often and converse with him.
27
But after two years had passed, Felix was succeeded by
Porcius Festus, and wishing to do the Jews a favor,
Felix left Paul imprisoned.

In one episode of The Andy Griffith Show, a traveler
came through town and caused a bit of a problem. He
had an atrocious work ethic: There is nothing that
you have to do today that couldnt be better done
tomorrow.

Even though Andy gave him a much-needed job, the man
lazily sat on Andys front porch day after day. He
needed money, but he did not want to do the work. Andy
was especially unhappy with the effect that this
lackadaisical attitude had on his son Opie.

How often do we live our lives under a similar
principle of procrastination? We put things off for a
number of reasons. I will just sleep on it . . . . I
just want to be sure of all my options, so I am going
to take a few days. Frequently, these are necessary
delays to solidify ones thinking. However, more often
than not, these phrases could be translated, I just
do not want to do it, so I am going to put it off
until the last minute.

Are you too comfortable right now to stand up and do
the job that has been asked of you? Do you think
tomorrow will be a more opportune time for action?
Consider Proverbs 27:1, Do not boast about tomorrow,
for you do not know what a day may bring forth.

We are not guaranteed a tomorrow. All you have for
certain is this very instant, so live it as though it
were your last.
