josph.in this regard i like to add some thing to it.
in our profession of faith or creed as we call it
there is a phrase....we belive in the communion of the
saints(Apostles creed). church right from the very
beginning acceped this fact or truth that there is a
common facter between the holy souls of the 'three
churchs'. here church means the three phases of the
journey of the souls. first, those sajourners on the
earth or the pilgrims who r on the move towards the
eternity, here we include. second is the suffering
church,that is the souls in the purgety who are under
going the purification on their way to eternal
happiness, and the last is the victorious church that
is the souls in heaven.when we pray to saints or
rather when we seek the intercession of the saints
what we are actually doing is willingly enter in to
this communion of the saints.
from the biographies of some of the saints we can see
they receive the "heavenly vision". that is the gift
to see for a fraction of the time the 'happenings in
other churches'(the above mentioned three
churches)normally holy people or souls are given this
vision for the purpose of intercession often for the
convertion of sinners on the earth or the souls in
purgetry. so it is understood that the Hholy Trinity
want the prayers of holy people and holy souls. so i
feel there is nothing wrong in seeking the
intercession of the holy souls who have gone before
us. as c.c. josph said it is not to the 'dead people'
that we r praying to but when we seek the intercession
we enter in to the dynamic communion of saints who
have gone before us.
