This morning I greeted my Mother " Happy Mother's Day". In the evning I
mightaccompany her for dinneror will be with my brothers for dinner to
honor the mothers in my family. Themother of Jesus,at Cana in Galilee, "instructed
those waiting on table do whatever he tells you" John 2,5.Jesus gave a
wonderful Mother's Day gift to his Mother Mary and that was the first
miracle of Jesus " Jesus performed this first of his signs at Cana in
Galilee" John2.11. Today the 12th of May, we celebrateMother's Day,a
special day set apart to honor all the mothers from Eve to you the new
mother. I wish all the Mothers, "Happy Mother's Day"It is an honor to be
a mother and to have a mother. Mother is the other name for
love.Mothers givelife, nurture life, protect and foster life on the
earth. When I seethe mothers carrying their children and walk to the
Alter for blessing and or for Holy communion, I say, it is not fun to be
with unruly children and to love them. At the peaceful arms of the
mother, the children are lulled to sleep. Then they are quiet. "They look
like saints in the church when they sleep in their mom's arms", I say to
myself . It is the most wonderful miracle on this earth, to see the
unruly children in the Church and outside to be quiet in the arms of
their mothers. This morning, at the Church, a young couple brought
theirson for blessing. That boy has told me "I have prepared a special
gift for my mother" and I asked him to tell me about that gift. He looked
at the mother and said "Hush....NowI can't tell you Father Mathew, my
mom will hear. It is a surprise" He whispered to me " I havepainted a
beutiful Rose flower . Colored Red for my Mom and my dad asked me to do
that."But themother over heard. She gave him and his dad a big hug and
a kiss and I heardthe little boy say "Thank you Mom,I love you" and
they left the Church. A mother loves her children and sacrifices
everything for them. She grows grey with her children, her spouse and the
rest of the family. Mothers forgive faster and hides the mistakes
oftheir children and prays for them. Yesterday a mother told me "I am in
the church to pray for my chiildren". She prayed hard during the evening
Mass. Before she went home she asked me to pray for two of her sons in a
special way. The mother sees everything. She feelsthe need of
herchildren and offers everything. She earns and sacrificeswealth,
health and everythign she has for her children and family. I spoke with a
mother last sunday at a First Holy Communion and she said " You know I am
very happy today. I was able to arrange a party for my son on his First
Holy Communion. I like this. We didn't have a party when I received the
Fisrt Holy Communion" She sacrificed a lot of time, convinced the dad
and arranged the party. Yes mothers are good at intercession. Mother
Mary said to Jesus " Son, they have no more wine" John2.3 and Jesus
obeyed , God obeyed His mother! The mothers follow us asshadows. They
hover over us and envelope us with love. Children and husbands get healed
at the love of the woman, a mother , wife and a friend. There are
millions of mothers who are remembered today with special love. Millions
of Rose flowers are sold today in the US and elsewhere in the World.
Mothers get them all today. It is their day. A day of love. Rose flower
is the sign of love. Restaurants are fully booked in the US . Children
and husbands treat their mothers today. They have special treats at the
churches, restaurants, parks, homes etc. Although it has taken a
commercial twist, the celebration of the Mother's Day is something
important.Mothers give us love and we return that love the best way we
could. They love to hear and see that we care for them and love them.
They express their love towards us and they need to see, hear, touch and
feel our love towards them. It is not just enough to say, "Oh my Mom , my
wife, she knows that I love her. She understands everything". I will say
"mothers are not philosophers". They expressed their love and we need to
show our love in action to them. Jesus did that. Even on the cross Jesus
looked at his Mother and said to his disciple "look after my mom" and to
his mother he said "mom here is your son" and from that moment on that
disciple took her into his home. John 19.27. A Wonderful expression of
love from the Holy Cross.Mothers are special people. Mary the Mother of
Jesus followed Jesus and prepared special food for him. She knewthe
likes and dislikes of jesus. Thank God,these days I see a lot of mails
on the joynet reflecting our sensitivity. People write about a laughing,
smiling, joyful Jesus. Yes Jesus is a Joyful person. God is love. Jesus
is God on this earth. Jesus is God's love incarnate for us. Love is
joyful. Jesus is joyful. A mother is the expression of love. God loves
the mothers. I am sure Jesus said many times to his mother Mary"I love
you" and I don't know how many times Mother Mary has said to her son " I
love you". Expression of love varies from culture to culture and Jesus
respected the God given culture of the Jewish people. "Now Jesus went
down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them. His mother
kept all these things in memory. Jesus for his part, progressed steadily
in wisdom and age and grace before God and men". Luke 2,51-52. Jesus
learned the conventional ways of expressing love and affection. Because "He
grew in wisdom, age and grace before God and men" Luke 2,52. Jesus loved
his mother Mary. Jesus God, loves us and and gave His Mother Mary as our
mother.I wish all the mothers on the joynet and throughout the world"
Happy Mother's Day". There are many new Mothers this years. You will be
thrilled as your husband gives you a flower and tells you " Happy
Mother's Day.I love you". New Moms, when you hold your loving baby in
your arms know how much you are loved. The baby smiles at you and tells
you "Mom I love you". The wonderful women who cared for life and are
caring for life, who are mothers for many years, when you hear " Happy
Mother's Day" from your children, Husband and other family members, you
will refresh your love. Those who have mothers, know that is the best
gift you have today. This is a day of love. When you love, feel that
love, express that love in words. It doesn't hurt to say in the most
acceptable way " I love you ". love heals. Express your love and get
heled of petty domestic issues in your families.Happy Mother's Day. God
Bless all the Mothers. I am saying a special prayer for all the Mothers.
God loves you mothers. We the members of the Joynet love you. I love
you. You are the most beautiful handiwork of God. Fr Thomas Mathew/ May
12/ USA
