All IE versions to date if i'm not mistaken (and I fear even v8) have their own "box-model" implementation. Basically it means that IE for whatever reason (i guess backwards compatibility, stubbornness or just plain ignorance uses its own rules to calculate dimensions for (correct me if I'm wrong) every DOM element. And again, correct me if I'm wrong but every other browser adheres to the standard.
