It's all kind of already in the core:

rewind: $('...').parent().children(':first')
next()
key:
$.fn.key = function(){
    return this.parent().children().index(this);
};
current: $('...').val()
valid : $('...').next().length
previous()

I probably misunderstood you, what's your objective?
