This appears to be a bug in WebKit: 
https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19922

It is affecting Apple Safari 3.2 and Google Chrome since they both use
WebKit.  I hope this is not a restriction that was placed purposely
into the code.  I dislike using workarounds like the one mentioned in
the comments.
