My example code uses this selector syntax: t...@class^=child-] Support for [...@attribute...] has been changed to just [attribute...] with jQuery 1.3. Remove the @ and it should work for you.
Btw, I find this change very annoying. It has prevented a few projects I've touched from upgrading their jQuery version, because it would require going in and fixing lots of code.
