I've found the nightly webkits behave nothing like the latest safari! xml handling is improved other things are broke! Not sure if the current safari source is available.

Very interesting, as from my last reply you see that the source code of WebKit seems to indicate that the "load" event should fire. Hmm... does anybody have a clue what we can do to detect that Safari has successfully loaded a dynamically generated <script> (except by doing something specific in the loaded script itself to workaround, of course)?
