Well, I don't think the BlockUI plugin would be the best solution as it's not very user-friendly and personally I would find it very annoying if a whole web page is blocked. I rather suggest you just disable the submit button, which PayPal also does with the last pay now button to prevent multiple payments.
You can disable the submit handler by using: $('input[type=submit]').attr('disabled', true); or create a custom effect if it's something else that submits the form, e.g. an image with an onclick event. $('div#container').html('Loading, please wait...'); If the choice where up to me I'd go for the second one.
