I was given some very useful guidance on #jquery (thanks!) The problem is due to the fact that the 't2-display' DIV is nested inside others. Since the nesting is arbitrary across my application (both in terms of levels & classes) I'll have to take the opposite approach & label up the DIVs to which I *do* want my function to apply.
