This works and will take care of unchecked conditions too.

        $text = $$.parent().parent().find('.email, .contact');

        if($$.is(':checked')) {
                $text[0].value = 'Email Checked';
                $text[1].value = 'Contact Checked';
        }
        else
                $checkbox.val('');
});
