This is the signature from the docs [1]

    val err = function (XMLHttpRequest, textStatus, errorThrown) {
        // typically only one of textStatus or errorThrown
        // will have info
        this; // the options for this ajax request
    }

So when it's thrown, investigate textStatus and/or errorThrown to help
find the cause of the error.
