I've searched everywhere for the answer to this but can't find it
anywhere, so I was wondering if anyone in this group could help me
out.

The situation is as follows: I have 3 lists, and I want users to be
able to sort within them and across them. That's the easy part, and
works beautifully with Sortable. But here's the trick: depending on
what item is being sorted, there are restrictions on its movement.

Here's an example. I want users to be able to rank teachers within
three different subjects: Math Teachers, History Teachers and Science
Teachers. But some teachers teach multiple subjects and thus can be
placed in any of those categories.

So we have the following default lists:

Math: Mr. Johnson (teaches Math and Science), Mrs. Wallace (teaches
Math and History)
History: Mrs. Walsh (teaches just History), Mr. Jordan (teaches Math,
Science and History)
Science: Mr. Felton (teaches just Science), Mrs. Gonzales (teaches
Science and Math)

I want users to be able to take Mr. Johnson and sort him within the
Math list, or move him to the Science list. But he shouldn't be able
to be moved to the History list. All the teachers should be able to
be placed and sorted in the subjects they teach, but they should not
be able to be moved into subjects they do not teach.

Is there any way to do this? (Let me know if you need me to clarify
anything.)

Thanks for any and all help in advance,
Ben
