Just pass the name of the effect as a string like this:

$(function() {
                $("#dialog").dialog({
                        bgiframe: true,
                        height: 140,
                        show: 'slide',
                        buttons: {
                                Ok: function() {
                                        $(this).dialog('close');
                                }
                        }
                });
        });

Although, I did notice it appears to not work correctly with shadow
enabled on the dialog. The effect does not get applied to the
shadow.  Maybe a bug?
