You're correct, there's currently no way to pass any parameters other than the type of effect to the show and hide options. We'll be taking a serious look at how to integrate effects into our various plugins over the next few months.
As for the genie effect, you can try adding a close callback that will cancel the close (return false), then use the transfer effect to transfer the dialog to the button.
