Thanks, James.  I posted this message in a number of different places and
yours is the first confirmation.  Given that the ISAPI filter is a fairly
common construct in the IIS world it seems like more people would have
knowledge of the platform differences.

At lease I am now off to see if some of the other app servers do the same
thing.

I tried to do similar things using certificate authentication.. Iif the
user is authenticated and authorized, I would then forward the request
to the requested perl or html page. But it does not work, and does
indeed recurse. 

I am forced to open the requested application in the servlet and either
exec perl or read and write the Web page (and the perl results).

It would be nice if this problem were solved.
