Now theres a good answer.
I have a similar problem where the left frame takes many minutes to come
up and when i select any option in that frame. Makes sense too, the
machine i am trying to get to is in a sandboxed production environment
with limited outside connectivity.

Don't know if this helps you, but I have bumped into a similar problem
when
using JMC to create web-apps. It created a web.xml file with link to
external DTD on Sun's site, then it got hosed since our proxy servers
stink
and 75% of the time I can't get outside. So then JMC would freeze up
for
several minutes trying to load the left frame on launch and everytime I
clicked any link on the new web-app. After I found and removed the DTD
link
(and then added some data to the web.xml since it was blank other than a
root element), it worked fine.
