I would recommend the normal methods but use SSL. If this is a high burden
to pay then use HTML forms and just use SSL on the login page. If you use
BASIC Authentication you should leave SSL on all the time because the name
and password will be sent using a poorly encrypted base64 encoding on all
requests going to your web server.

to go through IIS.  Anyone, know how to do this?  Are there any other
methods that don't use clear text passwords from the client and connect to
JRun web server directly?
