Sounds similar.
We are now running on 1.3, and seems to have smoothed
out. We had a problem with 1.3 just dying (seg fault),
but recompiling some classes in the production environment
seems to have cured that. We will probably not go back
to 1.2 now.

I'm not sure what I can do to the configuration? When it is
running fine I can get the dump. Naturally, when it locks, I
cannot. Is there something that you have to do. Are you talking
about something besides the usual JVM dump?
One funny thing that happens is that in doing periodic thread dumps
on 1.3, it seems there may be a bug in 1.3 where the JVM will die
(a different HotSpot error). So we can't have our cake and eat
it too, or something like that.
