Hello,

JRun 3.1 beta 2 is out.

There are three very cool new development features, the first of which is
the ability to automatically and dynamically redeploy war files, web.xml
settings, JavaBeans and taglib files. Basically, any file in the Web
container can be automatically deployed on start-up, during runtime, and
auto-redeployed when changes are detected. This is similar to features
found in some other containers, but I think a little more fully featured.
See the Release Notes for details.

The second major new feature is that all the JSP and EJB samples work out of
the box now because we are shipping an embedded database that's
preconfigured to demo all the samples. You used to have to set up your own
d.b. to try out the JRun Tag Library SQL tag, for example, or the EJB BMP
samples.

The third is that the creation of new server instances now works completely
from the JMC. JRUn 3.1 beta 1 had a kind of clunky interface that
half-worked. The one in beta 2 works completely and looks nice. Creating
and destroying new JRun server instances now is extremely easy.

Some people may like that all the docs are bundled in HTML versions now.

Also note, we are fully J2EE compliant now, so those of you doing any
EJB-related work may be interested in checking out the beta (beta 1 was also
fully compliant). We run the J2EE tests regularly to catch any regressions.

Finally, to prove the success of our Web container and of J2EE standards,
I've tested all the Tomcat, Struts and Jakarta taglib web applications on
beta 2 and they all work fine, except for a few bugs we discovered in some
of the older taglibs. So I hope some of you download, try out, and enjoy
beta 2!

Best regards,

Scott Stirling
